STAY CONNECTED FOR upates and action
By supporting the Commons Charter you are collaborating with others who want to be great ancestors to this gift often called the Great Lakes.
We are being the change we want to see. We are a diverse and bio-regional community working towards making these waters a shared and sacred commons. Many see water as a resource, an asset, or as a chemical composition known as H2O. We know it is much more.
Water is a relationship between the past and the future, upstream and downstream communities, and all of creation. What we do to the water we do to ourselves.
We believe protecting the Great Lakes as a commons is the best way forward. We would like your support and on-going participation.

meet our growing community
Communities around the Lakes are joining the effort to bring the Great Lakes Commons to life. Find others on our Charter Supporters page, our meetup group, and on the Commons Map to organize in our community.
In each place local inhabitants are acting as protectors, guardians, celebrators, “commoners” of their local waters. In each place it looks a little different. In some places a few people are engaging in story gathering and art making to reconnect others to the waters. In other places, communities are standing up against threats to their waters including mining, nuclear waste, toxic run off, etc.
Some places are creating water stewardship initiatives that include urban rain capture, public right of way efforts and bottled water bans. In others, sacred water walks are occurring. And in still others, community-wide forums are engaging a cross section of the community to come together to envision and work toward a thriving future for the Lakes we love.
